Richard and his wife Jan have been blessed with a large family of 7 children and 27 grandchildren. In 2011 they moved from Maryland to the Cincinnati, Ohio area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They now enjoy living within convenient visiting distance of five of their children and their families. In addition, they have made many friends in Cincinnati and love the mid-west life style and culture.

Richard grew up on a farm in Virginia near the town of Ashland. He knows the routine of daily chores having the responsibility of milking cows, and taking care of horses, pigs and chickens. His family had a large fruit orchard and garden that supported a roadside stand. They also cultivated several acres of corn and alfalfa. From his farm life experience he grew to love being outdoors and being close to nature.

At the age of nineteen he volunteered to serve as a missionary for his church for two years in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. After returning from his mission he met his bride to be, Jan, at Brigham Young University. Since she was from Seattle, Washington, he transferred to the University of Washington. There, while working for his father-in-law to help pay his way, he received his undergraduate degree in Economics. He then received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah and became a member of the Utah Bar.

He served as a Law Clerk to Justice J. Allen Crockett of the Utah Supreme Court and as a Law Clerk to Judge Aldon J. Anderson of the US District Court of Utah. After working for the Attorney General’s Office of Utah he took a position with West Publishing Company. Upon leaving West Publishing, he helped to launch a screen printing business with one of his sons. That business was later successfully sold. In 2003 he started his career in the Insurance and Financial Services industry.

Richard enjoys meeting new people and helping them plan for their financial future. Throughout his life he has been active in his church and community. He enjoys golf, reading history and genealogical research as hobbies. His compass for life is directed by the belief that service to others has a divine purpose and approval.
